About docaball

Docaball’s name was derived from the word “dodecahedron,” a unique geometric design built into the ball to help reduce choking risks. Made from natural rubber, a sustainable plant-based material, Docaball combines safe design with safe ingredients. It’s strong, flexible, and naturally non toxic, everything a dog ball should be.

Docaball is a small family-run business based in beautiful Idaho. We design, test, and ship every ball ourselves with the same care and attention we give our own dogs.

  • Yes! Natural rubber is safe for dogs. Natural Rubber is a raw material produced from latex, an organic substance harvested from the Hevea brasiliensis tree. Natural rubber is plant-based and has less chemicals than synthetic rubbers or plastics.

  • Yes! Our ball is very durable. Natural rubber is naturally stronger and more flexible than most synthetic material. But as every dog owner knows, a determined chewer can eventually get through almost anything.

  • Yes. The principle of rubber farming is simple. Trees are planted, about 500 per acre, and grow for 6 or 7 years. The latex can then be collected over a period of 20 to 30 years. A single rubber tree produces 132-330 lbs of rubber during its lifetime.

  • The ball’s design is to aid in breathing and add grip to a ball. The patented safety channels provide airflow while in the dog’s mouth. Balls can be a choking hazard, especially a solid surface ball. Please lookup how to perform the eXternal eXtraction Technique (XXT). It’s a safer and more effective choking intervention.

  • Docaball comes in four color options. For the most natural and sustainable choice, select Natural Rubber. It’s made without any unnecessary colorants or pigments.

  • Somewhat, due to its plant-based origins, it will break down over time. Natural rubber decomposes in well-aerated moist soils over a period of at least one year. We ask that you contact your local recycling company about recycling our product before throwing it away. Natural rubber is not compostable.

  • Natural rubber contains latex. If you have a latex allergy, we recommend you don’t handle the ball. Although, natural rubber products are manufactured differently than liquid latex products (i.e. rubber gloves), it’s recommended to avoid anything made with latex when having a latex allergy.

  • We are a small family run business located in Sandpoint, Idaho.

  • While Docaball was proudly designed in the U.S., it is molded near the source of natural rubber in regions where Hevea brasiliensis trees grow. Since rubber trees do not grow in the United States, manufacturing closer to the plantations helps reduce transportation and our overall carbon footprint.

  • Yes. The molds are super costly and we could only launch the company with the most common dog ball size of 2.5” or size medium. We plan on selling 2” and 3” sizes in the future.

  • A tennis ball approved for dogs can be great. A tennis ball designed for tennis may contain chemicals that could harm your dog. Try to limit tennis ball play time because it can be a choking hazard and the ball’s fuzz (nap) is abrasive and will prematurely wear down your dog’s teeth. We recommend a tennis ball for water play because natural rubber doesn’t float.
